Filled Up Full

At the start of a new year, I like to prayerfully determine a word for that year. In 2015, my word was wonder, inspired by this song by Bethel Music. The idea was to live in a state of awe and admiration of the world around me. I found that since this was my focus, I was empowered to live into the present by soaking in the beauty of my surroundings with child-like wonder.Hidden road, Lanai

My 2016 word came from John 1:16: “For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.” The implications of fullness are innumerable so I am constantly being stretched to discover new ways to apply it to my life. Though my perspective is Christian, I believe this goal is similar to the popular topic in our culture regarding achieving balance. Though balance is great, it is a word that doesn’t leave much room for excessive enjoyment. I believe God wants us to take it a step further and excessively enjoy Him and therefore experience abundance of LIFE, LOVE, LIGHT, etc as He is all of these things.

Full. Lacking nothing.

And I’m not talking about stuff.

That’s just, “Such stuff as dreams are made on”-

It will fade; Food for moths.

This is a higher, more complete fullness.

An internal “filled to overflowing” kind.

It bubbles up & out, lending substance to buckets of others-

Empowering people to cease the day;

To recognize that life is beautiful.

Don’t miss it by past-gazing or future-worrying.

Fullness is a gift for the present!

It’s His fullness given freely-

“& grace upon grace.”
